Gurleen Singh Sandhu is a PhD candidate in Materials Engineering at the Adelaide University, working within AM2D. His research focuses on functionally active charged surfaces and advanced multifunctional coatings for marine antibiofouling and anticorrosion applications, with an emphasis on surface charge engineering.

He holds a Master of Materials Engineering from the The University of Adelaide, where he received the Most Industry-Relevant Research Outcome Award, and has a strong interdisciplinary background in production and industrial engineering.

His work spans nanostructured coatings, graphene-based composites, zinc oxide functional systems, and plasma electrolytic oxidation coatings, integrating materials chemistry and surface engineering to develop durable and high-performance protective technologies, from which he has authored 4 peer-reviewed journal articles and 4 book chapters till date.

He is an active member of leading professional organisations in chemical engineering, materials science, and corrosion science, including the Institution of Chemical Engineers, Royal Australian Chemical Institute, Royal Society of Chemistry, Australasian Particle Technology Society, Materials Australia, the Association for Materials Protection and Performance, and the Australian Marine Sciences Association.
